For industrial centrifugal pumps, commissioning is more than switching on the motor. Mechanical condition, alignment, suction conditions, priming, lubrication, sealing, rotation, valve configuration and operating parameters all influence reliable startup.

Proper priming removes air from the pump and suction system where required and ensures the pump is filled with the intended liquid before startup. Starting a pump without the required priming can result in poor performance and damage.
Confirm the required direction from the approved pump documentation and verify the driver rotation before normal operation. The check should be carried out using the approved procedure for the specific pump and driver arrangement.
Monitor relevant operating parameters such as flow, suction and discharge pressure, motor current, vibration, bearing temperature, leakage, speed and other values required by the pump and system.
